First Steps in Cataract Surgery: AEOS Cataract Wetlab in Berlin

Aug 6, 2026 | News

The Arab-European Ophthalmological Society (AEOS) successfully held its Cataract Wetlab on 28 March 2026 in Berlin, offering participants a practical introduction to essential cataract surgery techniques.

Hosted at Bausch + Lomb’s Berlin facility, the workshop combined hands-on practice with guidance from experienced trainers, supporting colleagues taking their first steps in cataract surgery.

Practising Essential Surgical Techniques

The wetlab focused on three fundamental components of cataract surgery:

  • Capsulorhexis

  • Phacoemulsification

  • Intraocular lens (IOL) implantation

Participants had the opportunity to practise these techniques in a training environment, connecting theoretical knowledge with the practical demands of surgical procedures.

For those beginning their surgical education, dedicated practice and direct feedback are valuable parts of developing their skills.

Expert Guidance and Mentorship

AEOS extends a special thank you to Diana Nazzal, FEBO, and Prof. Dr. Banu Acar for their expert guidance and commitment to teaching.

Their mentorship was central to the workshop, helping participants engage with the techniques and learn from experienced ophthalmic surgeons. Their dedication made the session a valuable educational experience for everyone involved.

With Thanks to Bausch + Lomb

We also sincerely thank Bausch + Lomb for its generous support and for hosting the workshop at its Berlin facility. This support helped make a focused, practical training opportunity available to participating colleagues.

Continuing Our Commitment to Ophthalmic Education

The Berlin Cataract Wetlab reflects AEOS’s commitment to supporting professional development through practical education and shared expertise.

We thank our trainers, participants, and hosts for making the workshop a success and look forward to creating further opportunities for colleagues to learn, practise, and grow.
