AEOS Discusses Ophthalmic Education and Research Collaboration in Syria
The Arab-European Ophthalmological Society (AEOS) had the honour of meeting Prof. Marwan Alhalabi, Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Abeer Kudsi for a constructive exchange on ophthalmic education, hospital partnerships, and research.
Representing AEOS were Dr. med. Ahmad Rahal, MD, FEBO, FICO, and Vice Chairman Bilal Alokla. The meeting provided an opportunity to present the society’s planned activities and discuss how international cooperation can support academic and clinical development in Syria.
Preparing for the Damascus Congress
A central topic was the upcoming AEOS Ophthalmological Congress in Damascus. The planned programme will bring together international speakers and offer specialised courses and workshops alongside updates in ophthalmology.
The congress aims to create opportunities for colleagues to exchange clinical experience, develop their knowledge, and connect with experts from different professional backgrounds. Practical education and scientific discussion will be important elements of this shared learning environment.
Connecting Hospital Partnerships and Research
AEOS also presented its hospital partnership projects within the Förderprogramm Klinikpartnerschaften, together with its next initiative in ophthalmic research.
These activities reflect a commitment to strengthening the relationship between clinical practice, academia, and innovation. By supporting professional exchange and research collaboration, AEOS seeks to contribute to the continued development of ophthalmic education and care in Syria.
A Shared Commitment to Academic Development
AEOS is grateful to Prof. Alhalabi and Dr. Kudsi for the valuable discussion and the opportunity to share its work.
The meeting reaffirmed the society’s commitment to supporting academic development in Syria through education, science, and international cooperation. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and translating shared priorities into further opportunities for the ophthalmic community.
