Celebrating Young Researchers in Hamburg: Dr. Karim Lehiani Receives AEOS Award

Jun 25, 2026 | News

The Young Researchers Session at the 1st AEOS Scientific European Conference in Hamburg, Germany, brought emerging ophthalmologists and researchers together to share their work with an engaged scientific audience.

The Arab-European Ophthalmological Society (AEOS) is proud to celebrate the participants whose presentations made the session a highlight of the conference—and to congratulate Dr. Karim Lehiani, recipient of the Young Researchers Session Award.

Recognising Outstanding Research

Dr. Lehiani received a €500 prize and a special AEOS shield in recognition of his winning presentation.

The award followed a competitive session featuring research across a broad range of clinical and scientific topics. Each presenter contributed valuable ideas and demonstrated a commitment to advancing ophthalmic knowledge.

AEOS warmly congratulates Dr. Lehiani and thanks every participant for the preparation, dedication, and scientific curiosity they brought to Hamburg.

Engaging the Audience in Scientific Recognition

A distinctive feature of the session was its transparent audience voting process, which allowed attendees to participate actively in selecting the winning presentation.

This involvement encouraged close engagement with the research presented and made recognition a shared part of the scientific programme. It also helped create an atmosphere in which emerging researchers could connect with colleagues through their work.

Encouraging Academic Involvement

AEOS was pleased to welcome Samer Alkarkoukly, representing the German-Syrian Research Foundation e.V., as a guest speaker.

His lecture addressed the importance of research and academic involvement for young ophthalmologists, adding a broader educational perspective to the session. His insights encouraged attendees to consider research as an important part of their professional development and contribution to the specialty.

We sincerely thank him and the foundation for supporting the next generation of clinician-scientists.

Building Opportunities for Emerging Talent

The session reflected AEOS’s commitment to giving young researchers opportunities to present their findings, participate in scientific discussion, and establish professional connections across Europe and the Arab world.

We extend our gratitude to the session chairs, presenters, attendees, and partners at the German-Syrian Research Foundation e.V. Their contributions made this a memorable occasion for learning and recognition.

Congratulations once again to Dr. Karim Lehiani and to all participating researchers. We look forward to welcoming further ideas, discoveries, and collaboration at future AEOS meetings.
